Multi-Sample Unsteady-State Permeameter and Porosimeter

The Multi-Sample Unsteady-State Permeameter and Porosimeter measures porosity and gas permeability on a batch of plug-sized core samples without operator intervention between plugs. It is intended for routine core analysis laboratories that process large numbers of plugs and need permeability and porosity under confining stress by the unsteady-state, pressure-decay method with helium or nitrogen.

How it works

Up to 16 plugs of 1 inch diameter, or 13 plugs of 1.5 inch diameter, with lengths from 0.75 to 3 inches, are loaded into the instrument. Each plug is sealed under a confining pressure selected between 400 and 10,000 psi. For porosity, gas at known pressure is expanded into the pore space and the equilibrium pressure gives pore volume. For permeability, gas is charged to the upstream side at up to 250 psi pore pressure and the pressure decay through the plug is recorded; the decay curve yields permeability. The permeability range is below 0.001 md to above 10,000 md and the porosity range is 0.1 to 60%.

The sequence runs automatically across all loaded samples. Gas supplies required are helium at 400 psi or nitrogen at 500 psi for the measurement and dry air at 100 psi. Power is 110 to 220 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz. Sample size, pressure ratings, wetted materials, tooling and instrumentation are set for each project.
