Liquid Fraction Collector

The Liquid Fraction Collector (CT-FM-LFC) divides the effluent from a coreflood test into separate fractions and places each one in its own graduated tube. Collection runs automatically on a drop-count or time basis across 80 tubes, so the outflow of a long test can be sampled without an operator changing receivers. The measured quantity is the liquid volume of each fraction.

How it works

Effluent reaches the tubes through a silicone rubber drop former. In drop mode the collector counts 1 to 999 drops per tube in 1-drop steps, and one drop is about 50 µl. In time mode the interval is set from 0.05 to 9.99 min in 0.01 min steps, or from 10.0 to 99.9 min in 0.1 min steps. At the end of each count or interval the carousel moves on to the next tube. Fractions therefore range from a single drop to 9 ml. The operator can also step to the next tube by hand. A polyurethane tube serves as the waste outlet.

The case and carousel are polypropylene and the front panel is hard-coated polycarbonate. The carousel takes 13 x 100 mm tubes in glass, polypropylene or polystyrene. The collector measures 24 x 33 x 25 cm (W x D x H), weighs 5 kg and runs on 110 to 220 VAC, 50/60 Hz, at ambient temperatures from 4 to 40 °C. It is listed as meeting IEC 61010 and CSA 22.2.
