Two-Phase Video Separator (Ambient)

The Two-Phase Video Separator (Ambient), model CT-FM-VS2A, separates the liquid and gas phases produced during a core flood or other multiphase experiment and measures their volumes at atmospheric pressure. The separator body is glassware, and a color camera records the phase interface so that volumes are read visually with direct observation of the fluids. It belongs to the fluid monitoring group of special core analysis instruments, alongside the three-phase ambient unit, the HPHT video separators, the video tracker and the fraction collectors.

How it works

Effluent from the core holder enters the glass separator, where gas collects above the liquid. The camera has a 5 megapixel sensor and a 50 mm field of view, lit by a 20 W light source. Measurement resolution is 0.02 mm and volume accuracy is 0.01 mL. The standard maximum volume change is 50 mL; other volumes are available on request.

The unit operates at atmospheric pressure and up to 40 °C. The controlled condition is ambient separation. The measured variables are liquid and gas volume by visual reading. Power is 110 to 220 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz.
