High Pressure Hydrogenation Reactor
The High Pressure Hydrogenation Reactor LEHPHR is an industrial stirred pressure vessel for three-phase hydrogenation: a solid catalyst held in slurry, the liquid reactant, and hydrogen as the gas phase. The reference model covers 1000 to 3000 liters total volume at a design pressure of 90 bar and design temperatures up to 300 °C. Vessel material is SS304 or SS316 as standard, with solid or clad SS2205, SS321, C-276, nickel, titanium and zirconium for corrosive service.
How it works
The rate of a slurry hydrogenation is limited by mass transfer across the gas-liquid boundary, so the mixing system sets the gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient. The LEHPHR uses a hollow shaft with a gas induction impeller. Unused hydrogen from the headspace is drawn back down the shaft and redispersed as fine bubbles, which raises gas hold-up, enlarges the gas-liquid interfacial area and keeps the catalyst in uniform suspension. Baffles, spargers and a gas distributor are fitted as internals.
The agitator is driven through a zero-leakage magnetic coupling, so no shaft seal crosses the pressure boundary. Heating is by oil jacket of conventional, limpet coil or half-pipe form. Cooling is by internal spiral coils or a cooling tube condenser. The motor is explosion-proof, DIICT4, 7.5 to 90 kW, and stirring speed is 0 to 350 rpm. The head is sealed with a spiral wound metallic gasket. Head geometry (semi-elliptical, dished, hemispherical or flat), dimpled jackets and explosive clad construction are project options.
