Automated Polishing Machine

The Automated Polishing Machine LEAP250 polishes thin sections for petrographic analysis. A motorized sample holder arm carries one to four specimens on a 250 mm plate, and a variable-speed drive covers a range of polishing processes. The result is the polished surface finish of up to four sections prepared under the same conditions in one run.

How it works

Specimens are clamped in standard sample holders on the motorized arm, which rests them on the rotating plate. Load comes from 200 g weights, with four sets supplied, one for each holder position. The plate turns at a variable speed up to 600 rpm. Plate speed and cycle time are both adjustable, so a polishing sequence can be repeated from batch to batch. The drive runs without vibration at low speed, and the work area is accessible for cleaning between steps.

The four standard holders adapt to several specimen geometries: 30 × 45 mm, 1 × 1.5 in, 60 × 45 mm and 1 × 3 in.
