Rodded Floating Piston Accumulator

The Rodded Floating Piston Accumulator, model CT-FS-RFPA, stores a test fluid behind a free piston and delivers it to the core holder or PVT cell at pressure. A rod fixed to the piston extends through the end cap, so piston position, and with it the volume transferred, is read from outside the vessel. It is offered in 500 cc and 1,000 cc volumes with pressure ratings of 10,000 psi or 15,000 psi, for service up to 150 °C (300 °F), in stainless steel or Hastelloy.

How it works

The cylinder is divided by the floating piston into a drive side and a sample side. Raising the drive-fluid pressure moves the piston and pushes the sample fluid out through the opposite port at the same pressure, with no contact between the two fluids and no dead volume in the sample. The controlled variables are drive-fluid pressure and transfer rate. The measured variables are piston position or displaced volume, read from the rod, and transfer pressure. The rod gives a direct check of the remaining sample during long floods and recombination steps.

Within the fluid storage group the accumulator is used with the accumulator stand and heating mantle for conditioned injection of brines, oils and gases.
