Centrifugal Extractor
The Centrifugal Extractor (CT-PREP-CENT) removes hydrocarbons from core plugs by combining a miscible solvent with centrifugal force. It belongs to the core cleaning line used ahead of routine and special core analysis, alongside Soxhlet, flow-through and CO2/solvent cleaners, and is chosen where residual oil must be removed without damaging delicate minerals such as clays.
How it works
Plugs are loaded into the extractor, 6 to 18 at a time depending on plug length, with a maximum diameter of 2 in and a maximum length of 3 in. The centrifuge spins at up to 3000 rpm. Centrifugal force drives solvent through the pore space, the solvent dissolves the hydrocarbon and the mixture is thrown out of the plug and collected. Rotational speed and solvent choice are the controlled variables; extracted-fluid recovery is the measured result. Wetted parts are stainless steel and PTFE. The unit runs on 220 V, 50 Hz and draws 1500 W.
