Compact Relative Permeameter

The Compact Relative Permeameter (model CT-RCA-ERP) measures absolute permeability to liquid and gas and the end-point effective permeabilities of a two-phase fluid system on core plugs. It is the smallest unit of the routine core analysis relative permeability range and uses a Hassler type core holder rated to 400 psi confining pressure and 100 psi pore pressure at ambient temperature. The range, which also includes benchtop unsteady-state, compact steady-state and combined units, gives two-phase flow data on standard plugs for waterflood and displacement studies.

How it works

The plug, 1 in or 1.5 in in diameter and 1 in to 3 in long, is held in the Hassler holder under confining pressure. A fluid is injected at a controlled rate, and the resulting flow and pressure conditions give the absolute permeability to that fluid, liquid or gas. For a two-phase system the plug is brought to each end-point saturation and the effective permeability to the mobile phase is measured at that state. Controlled variables are injection rate and confining pressure. Measured outputs are absolute and end-point effective permeabilities.

Wetted parts are stainless steel. Nitrogen supply is 2,000 psi and the unit runs on 110 to 220 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz. Sample size, pressure and temperature ratings, wetted materials and instrumentation are configured per project.
