Benchtop Unsteady-State Relative Permeameter
The Benchtop Unsteady-State Relative Permeameter (model CT-RCA-BURP) determines absolute permeability and two-phase liquid relative permeabilities on core plugs by the unsteady-state method. The plug is held in a hydrostatic core holder rated to 350 bar (5,000 psi) confining pressure and 350 bar (5,000 psi) pore pressure, at ambient temperature. It belongs to the routine core analysis range, which gives oil-water and gas-oil relative permeability curves on standard plugs for waterflood and displacement studies without a full special core analysis rig.
How it works
A plug of 1 in or 1.5 in diameter and 1 in to 3 in length is loaded in the hydrostatic holder and brought to the confining pressure representative of the reservoir. Absolute permeability is measured first by injecting a single liquid at a controlled rate. For the relative permeability test the plug, saturated with one phase, is flooded by the second phase at a set injection rate. The displacement is followed with the instrumentation configured for the project, and the relative permeability curves are derived from that record.
Controlled variables are confining pressure and injection rate. Measured outputs are absolute permeability and the relative permeability curves. Wetted parts are stainless steel. Nitrogen supply is 2,000 psi and the unit runs on 110 to 220 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz. Sample size, pressure and temperature ratings, wetted materials and instrumentation are configured per project.
