Slim Tube System

The Slim Tube System (CT-EOR-SLIM) runs dynamic miscibility displacements to determine the minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) of an injection gas with a reservoir oil at reservoir temperature. Live oil is displaced from a long sand-packed coil by hydrocarbon gas, CO2 or solvent at a series of pressures, and recovery at each pressure is plotted to locate the MMP. The data underpin gas EOR and CO2 flood design.

How it works

The slim tube is a 24 m (80 ft) coil of 1/4 in stainless steel tubing, other lengths available, packed with calibrated 230 to 310 µm silica. The pack has a porosity of about 35% and a pore volume of about 100 cc. The tube is saturated with live oil at test pressure and temperature and then displaced with the injection fluid at a controlled rate while pressure and temperature are held at setpoint. Recovery is recorded for each pressure step and plotted against pressure; the MMP is read from that curve.

Working pressure is 700 bar (10,000 psi) and working temperature up to 150 °C. Fluids are live oil, hydrocarbon gas, CO2 and solvent. Power supply is 220 VAC, 50 Hz. Pressure and temperature ratings, wetted materials, modules and instrumentation are configured per project.
