Core Drill Bits and Barrels
CT-CMP-BITS are diamond core drill bits and matching core barrels used to cut cylindrical plugs from whole core and rock samples for routine and special core analysis. They are consumables for a plugging drill in the core preparation laboratory. Three standard plug diameters are listed: 1 in, 30 mm and 1.5 in.
How it works
The bit is a thin-walled tubular cutter with a diamond-set crown. As the drill turns and feeds the bit into the rock, the crown cuts an annular groove and leaves a cylinder of rock inside the tube. The barrel behind the bit holds the cut plug and transmits the drive from the drill spindle. The bit inner diameter sets the plug diameter, so the bit size is chosen from the plug size required by the downstream test, for example the core holder bore.
Bit size, diamond matrix and barrel type are supplied to requirement. The matrix is selected for the rock type and hardness; the barrel is selected for the drilling machine and for the plug length to be recovered.
What is included
- Diamond core drill bit in the selected diameter
- Core barrel of the selected type
