Unsteady-State Relative Permeameter

  • The Unsteady-State Relative Permeameter (model CT-RP-USS) determines absolute permeability and relative permeability curves of core samples for liquid/liquid and liquid/gas systems by the unsteady-state method. It is a compact system in which both injection and production are measured at reservoir conditions.

    How it works

A core plug of 1.5 in diameter and 1 in to 3 in length (other sizes on request) is loaded in the core holder. Confining pressure up to 700 bar (10,000 psi), pore pressure up to 700 bar and gas pressure up to 165 bar (2,500 psi) are applied, and the sample can be held at up to 150 °C. The displacing fluid is injected at a set rate; confining pressure, pore pressure and injection rate are the controlled variables. Fluid production from the core is measured by a video system at reservoir conditions, independent of fluid composition, so no correction of produced volumes to ambient conditions is required. Absolute permeability and the relative permeability curves are derived from the injection and production records.

Wetted material is stainless steel. The system is supplied for 220 VAC, 50/60 Hz and requires compressed air at 7 bar (100 psi).

    What is included

    • Core holder for 1.5 in diameter plugs, 1 in to 3 in long
    • Confining and pore pressure systems, 700 bar
    • Injection system with rate control
    • Video-based production measurement at reservoir conditions

    Specify for your project

    • Core diameter and length if different from 1.5 in and 1 in to 3 in
    • Fluid pairs to be tested (liquid/liquid or liquid/gas) and the gas pressure required within 165 bar
    • Confining and pore pressure and temperature within the 700 bar and 150 °C ratings
    • Number of samples to be tested at the same time
    • Whether steady-state operation or X-ray saturation monitoring is also required, in which case the related permeameters apply

This description defines the product family. Guaranteed performance, included hardware, exclusions, interfaces and acceptance criteria are stated only in the project-specific technical proposal and approved datasheet.
