Dripping Tester

The Dripping Tester LEIPX12 applies vertically falling water drops to an enclosure to check its protection against dripping water, the IPX1 and IPX2 conditions of IEC 60529. The specimen sits on a turntable under a drip panel inside a 1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm working space. The pass criterion comes from the product standard, not from the chamber.

How it works

A stainless steel pump feeds water to the drip panel through a glass float flowmeter, a pressure gauge, solenoid valves and throttle valves; the drip rate is set at 1 to 5 mm/min (±0.5 mm/min). The panel is 600 x 600 mm with 0.4 mm holes on a 20 x 20 mm grid and is fixed in height. The 600 mm diameter stainless steel turntable takes specimens up to 50 kg, adjusts in height from 350 to 700 mm, and turns at 1 to 5 r/min. It is set horizontal or tilted 15 degrees to cover the two drip conditions. A PLC with a control panel in English sets the test mode and time; stepping and geared DC motors drive the table. The frame is aluminum with transparent panels. Supply is 220 V, 1.0 kW, with earth leakage, low water and short circuit protection.

Standards listed for the unit include IEC 60529, ISO 20653, DIN 40050, JIS D 0203, MIL-STD-810G, IS 9000 and JSS 55555. Exterior size is 1550 x 1750 x 1200 mm.

Design

Our system uses multiple control solenoids to vary the water's spray volume/pressure. A holding tank prepares the water to the desired temperature if required. A pump ensures the water is delivered in the proper pressure range. The spray is activated via a programmable controller that sets the test mode and its desired parameters.

Automotive standards JIS D 0203, SAE J575

• The SAE specification J2245 is modeled after the JIS D0203. Details about the nozzles, rotating spray arms, and product table are also included. Additionally, drip and car wash tests are also specified. This test standard features spray arms with adjustable pressure/volume output.

Examples of OEM automotive manufacturers' requirements

• Heat the sample to a temperature above boiling, then spray with cold water for about two minutes. Repeat cycle.
• Heat the sample to boiling temperature, then spray with room temperature water for about fifteen minutes. Repeat cycle.
