Drop Tester for Portable Gadgets
The Drop Tester for Portable Gadgets LEGDP performs drop impact tests on smart phones, cell phones and other mobile gadgets. A specimen holding system keeps the dropping posture of the device so that the orientation at impact is repeatable and results are reproducible between runs. Devices are released from controlled heights onto defined surfaces, and the results guide housing design, cushioning choices and durability claims for consumer products before launch.
How it works
The device is fixed in the specimen holding system, which is held by an electromagnetic holder. The drop height is set on a scale between 250 and 2000 mm: by a manual scale and setting pointer on the LEGDP-2, or by an automatic scale and setting pointer on the LEGDP-275. A pneumatic pen cylinder holds and releases the specimen while keeping its posture, so the impact point can be controlled. As a safety measure the electromagnetic holder never releases the specimen holding system until it is energized.
The LEGDP-2 carries a payload of 2 kg on a 100 x 200 mm package size, measures 500 x 600 x 2382 mm and weighs 85 kg. The LEGDP-275 carries 7.5 kg on a 450 x 450 mm package size, measures 900 x 1100 x 2380 mm and weighs 430 kg. Both run on AC 220 V 50 Hz with a 5 kg/cm² air supply. The applicable standards listed for the family are JIS C 60068-0-31 and IEC 60068-2-31.
