Gamma Ray Logger

  • The Gamma Ray Logger records the natural gamma radiation emitted by recovered reservoir core along its length, giving both a total gamma count and a spectral analysis. Core laboratories use the profile to match core depth to the wireline gamma ray log, to correlate core with logs and to flag clay-rich and organic intervals before sampling.

    How it works

Whole or slabbed core up to 5.5 inches in diameter is laid on a 4 meter belt that carries it past a shielded sodium iodide detector measuring 3 by 3 inches. Shielding of 5 and 3.7 cm surrounds the crystal. The belt advances the core at a variable logging speed of up to 2 feet per minute while the detector counts over a set interval, so scan position and count interval are the controlled variables. The output is the total gamma-ray response and the spectral response as a function of position along the core, which can be plotted against the wireline log for depth matching.

The system operates on 230 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase. Sample size and instrumentation are set for each project, and a product data sheet (GAMMA LOGGER.PDF) is available for download on the product page.
