Unconsolidated Core Mounting System

The Unconsolidated Core Mounting System CT-PREP-MOUNT consolidates friable or unconsolidated material into heat-shrink Teflon tubing with dual end screens so that the sample can be handled and tested like competent rock. Loose sand and weak samples are encased in a supported sleeve that holds the grain structure intact. Mounted plugs then move on to porosity, permeability and flow measurements.

How it works

The sample is placed in a length of Teflon heat-shrinkable tubing with a 316 stainless steel screen at each end. The controlled variable is heating: the tubing is heated until it shrinks onto the sample and the screens, forming a jacket that confines the grains while the screens retain the material at both faces. The result is a plug of fixed diameter and length ready for the next test.

Standard tooling handles core diameters of 1 inch and 1.5 inch, with other diameters on request, and core lengths up to 2 inches.
